Knights of the Superellipse table. The Superellipse table of 1968 is a result of a meeting of the minds, designed by Danish poet, scientist, mathematician, designer, Piet Hein, with collaboration on the base by Bruno Mathsson and Arne Jacobsen. Inspired as a public planning solution to a traffic problem at a busy intersection in Stockholm, Hein worked to find an absolutely harmonic physical design that mashed up the circle and the square, ellipse and rectangle for ultimate flow. Being a mathematician, of course, this was right up his alley. The superellipse form appears in Canada, France, Japan, the US and Mexico as a construction solution in residential areas, and in sports arenas like the Olympic Stadium in Mexico City. Here in original furniture form, the Superellipse B616 table accommodates six chairs and is designed for open, inclusive gatherings and lots of moving about. In clean white or cool black laminate, this table makes a perfect choice and excellent fit for eat-in kitchens and dining rooms of all styles.
